Typography - Package a Dream, Brief 4

I have finished doing the hand drawn type. I feel now that i will create some illustration to alongside the type. I need to start thinking into how these poems can be reflected into products. These poems could be appropriate for the bedroom as they are related to dreaming, thinking of products such as fabrics and lamp shades that can be reflected upon.

I have started by using the type and creating a magical dreamy style of hand drawn type to capture the essence of the poems.

I have researched into poems that are related into dreams. I want use these poems and create typographic responses to the poems. Using the ideas of hand drawn type and Illustration to elaborate on the poems.

Screen Print - Catalogue Room, Brief 1

I decided to screen print my final resolution for the Catalogue Room brief. I found using two color separation within screen print a new and appealing method. I feel the stock of the paper and colors are not working, I need to experiment more to create a more athletically pleasing piece of design.  I have gathered a lot of imagery through this brief, and now I need to use this imagery to create a method of approach into products. Finding products that will use this type of imagery appropriately.
I really like how the corresponding back of the poster has turned out, the color works more on this side of the poster than the front. I feel still there is more experimenting to be done within color and paper stock to get a more finished resolution.

Back of poster - Catalogue Room, Brief 1

I have Illustrated my room, I have decided to keep it black and white as i will be screen printing the final poster design using a two color print. I have used the idea of numbers to correlate what the objects are. The poster design will use both sides of paper to catalogue the information of my room.

Initial Ideas for Spread - Musician Magazine Spread, Brief 3

This is my initial idea of how the music article could look, I feel that the spread needs colour to make it feel more complete. I need to develop the layout of the type to make it feel more Incorporated within the design. I may want to take this brief further, and try to develop a album cover using the imagery that i have created.

Inspiration - Retsu Takahashi

This Illustration style of is all based on the line quality. I need to take inspiration and apply the appropriate methods in creating imagery. The use of line is going to be very important in creating imagery that is interesting and appropriate for the catalogue room brief.

Front of Poster - Catalogue my Room, Brief 1

I have completed drawing up the some of the objects in my room. I have placed them onto a A3 document, i feel that the imagery is not working that effectively, I need to develop the scale and the format within the imagery.

Typography - Musician Magazine Spread, Brief 3

From looking at pattern and cultural imagery, I have developed the type for the title of the spread. I feel that the quality within the hand drawn type suits the genre of music, and cultural influence of the music.

Type - Musician Magazine Spread, Brief 3

Here I have used a typeface that is related to Indian culture. I have developed this type by hand drawing dots into the typeface, I feel it gives it a more textured feel.

Design Practice - Progress Statement and Briefs

Rationale

I want my creative practise to be based around Illustration. I want to use Illustration appropriately, contextualising my Illustration. This could be looking into product design, such as fabrics, ceramics and wallpapers. I want to contextualise illustration in other ways, I feel the most appropriate way to achieve this is by using live briefs. This will help to create a professional level of Illustration based work.

I have an interest in innovative packaging design and this could be developed through my Illustration practise. Creating contextualised Illustration through innovative packaging design, and this therefore would create products.

Subjects / Themes

I want to explore the themes of magical and fantasy within my Illustration practice. I have looked at Illustration that has an essence of magical and fantasy. By looking at Illustration from this theme, I feel that I can produce very open and broad range of Illustration work.

I am also looking at the theme of desire; I feel that the relation of desire too magical and fantasy could produce some very interesting work.

From these themes I then want to relate them to object. Trying to create a range or ornamental pieces of work.

Design Disciplines / Creative Development

I will be exploring illustration through the themes above.

I will try adapting my illustration practice into more sell-able products, looking at appropriate forms of product.

I will also have to explore innovative packaging design, taking origami into consideration.

Layout of catalogue - Indesign

Practical Skills / Workshops

I will be using the print workshop’s, Screen-print in particular. This is a way in which I am going to develop my image making.

I am also going to use the glass and ceramics studios, this will allow me to develop my understanding of print onto such materials. I want to learn valuable skills within the development of such products.

Brief 1: Catalogue Room - One Week Brief

I have found a brief that may help me to gather imagery.

Design a mail-order catalog for the sale of everything in your bedroom.

I have taken the idea of objects in my room.

Create a catalogue of screen-prints more mail order; the thing that is for sale is the print.

I want to create development of imagery related to my room. Producing a catalogue of screen prints will allow the context of the imagery.

Brief 2: Object of Desire - One Week Brief

Create a product catalog for an object from the future. This should be an object that you will desire, but it may be anything from an overpriced luxury item to an essential tool for surviving 10 to 20 years from now. Use your imagination. The market for this product will be an important consideration. Your catalog should be largely image-driven and should use minimal text. It should persuade, convince, and seduce us.

I have chose this brief as I feel I can gain understanding have how portray products in the right contexts.

Brief 3: Musician Magazine Spread

Create a spread for a magazine relating to musician. Create a suitable layout and style that can be related to an article of that particular musician.

This brief will allow me to develop my understanding of layout. I need to establish key layout skills so then this will kelp me to create interesting product catalogues.

Brief 4: ISTD - Package a Dream

Dreams can be fantasies, delusions, hallucinations, aspirations, visions, ambitions, desires… our sub-conscious mind can, on occasion, run riot. This project presents you with the opportunity to record your dreams in a way that others may share the experience of an insight into your psyche!

The challenge—create an informative, typographic experience that brings your dreams to life—the extent of your imagination is the only barrier.

I have chosen this brief as it relates to packaging. I want to explore packaging techniques and processes to create innovative pieces.

Inspiration - Danny Sangra

I feel some of Danny Sangra Illustration work is very much in-keeping with the work I want to produce. His work uses a lot of pattern based Illustration, keeping it to a minimal black and white.
