Tutorial

Issues Discussed at the Tutorial

A considerable amount of work but a lack of focus means that most of it remains unresolved

Have the visual skills, ideas and appropriate ambitions. What you lack is a clear brief or problem to solve

Good to see broadening of media (Informed by some good but inconsistent contextual research)

Now started to establishing a way of working, use it and consider how this applies to briefs.

Final Major Project - Statement of Intent

Design Practice Rational

I want my creative practise to be based around Illustration. I want to use illustration appropriately, contextualising my illustration. Using live briefs that I can adapt will help me to create appropriate illustration based work.I have interest in the product design area, learning more techniques and processes in areas such as wallpaper, fabrics, ceramics, and glass. Innovative packaging, looking at ore gamy to help develop packaging design. This way of looking at ore gamy can also help to develop innovative book design.

Inspiration - Fornasetti

Piero Fornasetti (1913-1988) is often described as a visionary. A Milan artist, Fornasetti was at the same time a painter, sculptor, designer, craftsman, and an engraver of art books. Drawing on a mix of Italian cultural tradition and surrealist invention, his idea were expressed on every conceivable support, from glasses and plates to umbrellas, lamps. furniture, and screens. The result is a very unusual and highly poetic body of work.

Final Major Project - Proposal

Design Practice Rational

I want my creative practise to be based around Illustration. I want to use Illustration appropriately, contextualising my Illustration. This could be looking into product design, such as fabrics, ceramics and wallpapers. I want to contextualise illustration in other ways, I feel the most appropriate way to achieve this is by using live briefs. This will help to create a professional level of Illustration based work.

I have an interest in innovative packaging design and this could be developed through my Illustration practise. Creating contextualised Illustration through innovative packaging design, and this therefore would create products.

Design Creative Development Areas

To develop my Illustration practise, I need to apply myself to different methods of print and production. Focusing on different areas of print, using the right methods to produce the most appropriate resolutions. I want to develop my understanding of product design, by using the right Illustration and print methods to create a product.

I also want create innovative book designs that can contextualise the subjects, themes and issues.

Professional Activities

I want to visit professional printers in textiles to gain more knowledge of the print production methods of their products. Research into print production of such materials as ceramics, glass, fabrics, metals, and books. Visiting exhibitions that are related to Illustration, to have a better

knowledge of how to present an Illustration exhibition. Find work experience in Bristol as I moving there after university, I will go there in the easter period.

Contextual References / Influences

Cultural pattern making, this has helped me to create method of Illustration. Looking at cultural design from the east to influence my product design.

Looking at in specific Illustrators such as Jon Burgeman and Jeremyville. There work given me a lot of influence, through using pattern and character combined.

Subject

Interior or Product Design – Using materials such as fabrics, metals, glass and ceramics.

I want to use character and pattern as my method of creating Illustration. I may want to use influence from Indian pattern making within my Illustration. Or look at broader range of cultural pattern making.

Research Areas / Research Activities

I will have to research print production in areas such as fabrics, ceramics, glass and metals.

Going into shops that have innovative and atheistically pleasing products, to have a knowledge of the kind of products that are more contemporary.
